Yes we are in Italy. Croatia island hopping was nice but we really did not want to go back to the Dalmatian coast and cycle on those roads. Just too much traffic and stress so we took an overnight ferry from Zadar, Croatia to Ancona, Italy.
The ferry to Zadar was a bit scary. Well not the actual Ferry, it was the getting in at10;40 PM at a Port 3 miles from the town!!! It was errie getting off the ferry and it being pitch dark in the middle of no where! We cycled toward town with as much lighting on us as we could. We saw signs for hotels and headed that way. But, we came across a camp ground and decided to set up camp. 1 hour later it was pouring rain but we were tucked away in the tent. Luckily it didn't start earlier or we would have had a terrible time getting to town.
We arrived in Ancona yesterday morning at 7am! Yikes we haven't been cycling that early this entire trip.
Italy is fabulous!!! Ancona is a farily large city and we really only spent enough time there to grab a bite to eat and then find a way out of town. But it is a very pretty city and the italian citizens that we asked for help from were very helpful and friendly.
Yesterday we rode 50miles to the town Arcevia which is a medival town at the very tip top of very steep hill as most medival towns are. I guess thats how Lords kept and eye on their kingdom and the little people.
Today we are in Gubbio another medival town. This town is an amazing find for us. We just looked at our map a tried to find a good route through the mountains to get to Tuscany. But little did we know that the route we chose would take us through some of the most beautiful and amazing little villages. The entire day we have been in awe of the surrounding beauty. When we rode in to Gubbio our jaws dorpped! It is beyond description. We are staying in the very center of the village in a camere (room for rent in italia) which is adorable. We are exploring the village and around every corner we are greeted with something beautiful and awe inspiring.
We are headed to Tuscany area and should get there by the weekend. The weather is a bit unsettled and we are having to dodge the rain but the weekend is supposed to be sunny and 80!
Downloading some pics so check them out!
