The last week has been simply amazing! It was fun and a little goofy seeing the Tower of Pisa. Of course we had to do all the funny tourist pictures like holding up the tower!!! Cycling to the Cinque Terre was a lot of fun as we had over 20miles of nothing but flat roads right along the beach and to make it even better the sun was shinning and the wind was at our backs! Once we got to the mountains it was equally as fun and beautiful. The hills and cliffs remined us a lot of the Pacific Coast but not nearly as rugged.
The Cinque Terre is certainly beautiful and we have taken a few days off of the bikes to really explore the area. It is a bit more touristy and busy than we expected but we have managed to make an adventure of it. We spent our first night in the village of Monterosa and woke to heavy rains! The room we were in was only available for the one night so we had to vacate it and adventure out into the elements. A train which runs right through all of the towns along the cinque terre made it a little easier for us to stay somewhat dry. A mad dash to the train station and we were on to the village of Levanto.
This was an excellent find for us! We found a great little hotel to stay in that is right in the heart of the village and we are just a short walk from the train station. For about 5£ a day you can ride the trains between each of the towns along the cinque terre as often as you want. By the afternoon the rain had slowed enough that we took the train to Riomaggiore (a 20min ride) and hiked the Cinque Terre trail from there to Carniglia which is the 3rd village. It was very beautiful and peaceful. The views are absolutely amazing and once again the pictures just do not do it justice!
There are several american couples who are staying in the same hotel and we have made lots of new friends. It is fun to hear other peoples adventures and get tips on the different places to see and things to do. Tonight we are all meeting on the hotel balcony to share wine and more stories!
The rain continued today and the forecast looks the same for tomorrow but we need to get going since our departure date is getting closer and closer each day. We think we are about 275miles from Nice and we have a lot to see between here and there!
Bob has a knee that is giving him some problems. Getting on and off the trains with the bikes is always an adventure and usually envolves carrying them up and down stairs. We think he probably hurt it doing just that. Hopefully the days rest today will help and he'll be back in tip top sherpa shape by tomorrow!
Happy Birthday to my dad, Tom and to My daughter-in-law Chauncey!

Hi Bob,
You've been gone so long I can't remember your last name! LOL! By the looks of things you're having a great time so I wouldn't worry too much about what they are saying about you! LOL! I never get the whole story but it's mostly after an abend. LMAO!
Have you chosen a place for the "B & S Bistro and Wine Bar", and when is the grand opening? Terri and I will be there. I'll bring my glasses so Bob can read the menu. Looking forward to you two coming back, but I'm sure your not ready yet.
